Isle May Put Second Resort on Coast Bookend Casinos
Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. has leased land on the north shore of the Bay of St. Louis in west Harrison County, which was previously proposed for a Circus Circus casino. "While the project is in the early planning stages, we are extremely excited about its potential," said Tim Hinkley, the Isle's corporate president.
"This casino resort would be a first-class development for the people of the Gulf Coast, and we look forward to continuing our efforts to provide a new entertainment venue for our customers. "No casino has operated in rural Harrison County since gambling was legalized.
The county would receive 0.8 percent of the gross gambling revenue and has the option of also imposing a 3.2 percent tax as Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis have done. "They have notified the Board of Supervisors that they have leased this property," said Supervisor Marlin Ladner, who represents the area.
"That's the extent of it, that they would probably be getting in touch with us later on to talk with us more in detail. "If the project goes forward, the Isle of Capri would have casinos on both ends of Harrison County.
Its Biloxi resort, the first casino gambling operation to open in the state, is the front-door property for gamblers arriving from eastern markets. However, the casino's client base has expanded to include many Louisiana residents since December, when it was the second Coast property to reopen after Hurricane Katrina.
