Isle of Capri Wants to Place Top Casino in Rural Harrison County

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Isle of Capri Casinos wants to build a new casino resort on the north shore of the Bay of St. Louis in rural Harrison County. The casino company announced yesterday it has leased land in west Harrison County for the project and if the plan is approved by state regulators the Isle would have casinos on both ends of Harrison County.

No casino has operated in west Harrison County since gambling was legalized. The county would receive point-eight percent of the gross gambling revenue and has the option of also imposing a three-point-two percent tax as Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis have done. The Isle already operates a casino gambling resort in Biloxi.

West Harrison County and Hancock County have become targets of casino companies since Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast in August and washed away many of the casinos in Biloxi and Gulfport. Mandalay Bay Resort Group owned the land where Isle of Capri has targeted for its new development. Mandalay Bay in 2001 abandoned its plans to develop a 225-(m)-million-dollar Circus Circus casino at the site.
