Jamaica Makes Move Toward Legalizing Casino Gambling
Jamaica appears to be the next country that will move forward with the idea of legalizing casino gambling. The Prime Minister has announced his intention of using gambling money to help fund areas of need.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding has reviewed a 2003 study on gambling. His conclusion is that legalized casino gambling could help the country in many ways.
"There are those who I know disagree with casino gaming. I genuinely respect their views. The fact is that the horse bolted through the gate a long time ago with the granting of licenses for hundreds of gaming machines," said Golding.
To further prove his point of how casino gambling is needed, he said, "What have not been permitted are table games. With improved technology, many slot machines now carry games which traditionally were exclusively table games, so what was intended to be excluded is very much here."
In speaking to Parliament, Golding also revealed that $2.8 billion in investment money has already been secured, and that over 6,000 hotel rooms will be available through developmental deals.
The money generated from the casino gambling would be put into a separate fund. The money would be used for security, education, and health.
