Jimmy Buffett Survives Intense Vetting To Win Nevada Gaming License
Jimmy Buffett has entertained customers for decades with his laid back style of music. The singer-songwriter has used his celebrity to launch a successful chain of Margaritaville restaurants over the past decade, and now the popular crooner is set to make his mark in the gaming capital of the US.
This past week, Buffett was approved for a gaming license by the Nevada Gaming Commission. The commission, according to several insiders, spent a relentless amount of time ensuring that Buffett was qualified for the license. Buffett had been in several minor brushes with the law, but they did not prevent the 65 year old from gaining the license.
Late last year, Buffett opened his first casino, Margaritaville, in the Flamingo. Buffett had been operating a restaurant in the facility before the casino, and the gaming establishment served as the next step towards expanding his popular Margaritaville brand.
Buffett has spent his life creating music with a beach sound. The singer has crafted a niche in the entertainment field that has been rivaled only by the likes of the Grateful Dead and Phish, a cult-like following, only for laid back beach junkies. His persona is best seen in the keys, where the Margaritaville brand began.
Gaming and entertainment have long been a marriage that has produced successful results. The Hard Rock brand built their reputation around classic Rock and Roll memorabilia, and then expanded the brand to include casinos in Las Vegas, Hollywood, and Tampa. Buffett is hoping that Margaritaville can follow in the footsteps of the Hard Rock gaming pattern.
