Johnston Officials Positive On Casino Vote

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

The Johnston Town Council voted 4-1 Tuesday night to ask the General Assembly to let residents vote on whether to put a casino there. The resolution, which passed 4-1 and is being pushed by a venture backed by businessman Donald Trump, asks lawmakers to draft a bill putting the question on the November ballot. Some lawmakers are pushing a proposal to change the state constitution to allow the Narragansett Indians to open a casino in West Warwick.

That venture is backed by Harrah's. Johnston Council President Robert V. Russo said the town's proposal would be an alternative to the West Warwick plan and would allow competition in the process. "Let the people vote on it," Russo said. The lone vote against the plan was Councilman Ernest F. Pitochelli, who opposes building casinos in Rhode Island and said he was upset that council members only learned about the meeting Friday night.
