July 4th Gambling Begins Friday At Greenbrier In West Virginia
The Greenbrier is one of the most historic resorts in the world, but the past year has been filled with gambling expansion in West Virginia. On Friday, the Casino Club will be holding its grand opening to kick off Independence Day weekend.
When West Virginia expanded their gambling options, The Greenbrier started construction on an underground casino that is expected to attract some of the richest people in the world. The grand opening ceremony will be loaded with celebrities.
Ben Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner, Shaquille O'Neal, and Jessica Simpson are among the many celebrities that are expected to attend the grand opening. Lionel Ritchie is scheduled to perform a concert after a five star gourmet dinner that will be served in the evening.
In April of last year, The Greenbrier was in bankruptcy and there were thoughts that it may not survive the economic recession. Jim Justice, however, bought the resort and took it out of bankruptcy. The underground casino was a plan directed at modernizing the resort, and the fruits of Justice's labor will be realized this weekend when thousands of gamblers come through the doors.
The Casino Club will be home to 320 slot machines and forty table games. The decoration will be unique to the point that even non-gamblers will come to enjoy the resort. The Greenbrier Waltz, an original composition written for the resort, will be played every night at 10PM.
West Virginia is one of the many states that has expanded their gaming options in recent years. Wager limits have increased, and the amount of time that casinos can stay open has also increased. The changes were made to help the state increase tax revenue from casinos, in the hopes of closing a budget deficit.
