Kansas City is the latest city in the country that has decided that casino gambling is the way to go to raise money, and as the deadline for applications approached this week, some big developers came in at the last possible time.

On Monday, only a base idea was needed to enter the applications and one of the biggest casino moguls in the World, Sheldon Adelson, chairman and chief executive of Sands Corp., and one of the 400 richest Americans, became a major player in the KC casino race.

There were several others that also submitted proposals on Monday. Pinnacle Entertainment which is based in Las Vegas, put in their proposal, as did a group that is led by Baltimore -based Cordish Co., in partnership with Kansas Speedway.

Other potential suitors include local area company Kickapoo and Sac Fox tribes. the group runs a reservation casino in the area since the early '90s.

The government is planning to hold public presentations with each of the potential casino owners being able to show their plans in detail. The presentations are set to be held from November 6-8, and then again December 5-7.

The applicants, which was thought to include up to 12 groups, will be showing their casino plans in hopes of landing the one casino license allowed under state law. The Kansas Lottery Commission will serve as the casinos owner, with the winning applicant serving as the managing company of the casino.
