Kansas City Casino Revenue Drops Slightly, Attendance Up

For most casinos around the US these days, finding out how much revenue they made the previous month has become a depressing time. In Kansas City, Missouri, the news was not overwhelmingly bad in March.

The city's four riverboat casinos reported only a revenue decrease of two percent for March. That figure is compared to the same month for 2008, and is better than most casinos nationally have done in the same month.

While any revenue decrease is not good news, there was a bright spot for the Kansas City casinos. attendance was actually up at the casinos compared to the same period the previous year. That gives the casinos hope for the immediate future.

"Although the revenue decreased, what happened in Kansas City is almost the reverse of what we are seeing around the country," said observer Jim Nurter, "In most places, casino attendance is down, sometimes by as much as fifty percent."

In March 2008, the casinos in Kansas City had $65 million in revenue. This March, that number fell to $63.7 million. Argosy Casino & Hotel Kansas City actually had a three percent revenue increase over the previous year.

Ameristar Casino & Hotel Kansas City had the biggest drop in revenue from one year to the next. Their revenue was $21 million this year, compared to $22.6 million in 2008. That was a decrease of seven percent.
