Kansas City Casino Revenue Holds Steady In August

It is not that Kansas City casinos are cleaning up these days when it comes to their gambling revenue, but sometimes just holding steady is a positive. For the second consecutive month, casinos in Kansas City were around their previous months revenue figures.

In most cities around the US, August was a terrible month for casino revenue. Las Vegas and Atlantic City, most notably, have had poor summers, leading many people to question the direction of casino gambling in the country.

Kansas City casinos, however, had August revenue of over $61 million. That was down from the same period last year by only 1.1%. Those are figures that while not great, are good enough in the current economy.

"With many casinos in the US experiencing double-digit losses in their year over year revenue figures, any casinos that are losing less than two percent from last year are doing well," said CGW Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "Kansas City casinos are in a good position to capitalize when the economy comes back."

In Missouri the news was much better than in Kansas City. St. Louis casinos carried the market by increasing revenue by fourteen percent in August. The St. Louis casino figures helped Missouri have an overall growth in revenue of 0.2%.

The smaller casinos seem to have survived the economic recession in the US much better than the big casino destinations. The big gaming companies have experienced hard times with their stock prices sliding, but in recent weeks the stocks have started to rebound.
