The weather across the US over the past several weeks has been a problem for casinos trying to recoup their revenue figures from the past. In Kansas City, Missouri, the weather is again keeping gamblers out of the casinos.
This afternoon, a winter snowstorm began to hit the Western Missouri. The storm was expected to produce snow and frigid temperatures, not the kind of weather that inspires gamblers to leave their homes and head to the casinos.
In Missouri, the gaming industry has been struggling since the economic recession. The President Casino in St. Louis has shut its doors after Pinnacle Entertainment reached an agreement with the Missouri Gaming Commission to return the gaming license. There was no shortage of developers that have bid on the license even in the tough economic climate.
The weather in Kansas City has been similar to the rest of the country, cold and stormy. The weather has caused a dip in revenue at casinos throughout the US at a time when the industry is already experiencing lower than usual revenue. Competition has become a major factor in the revenue at some casinos.
Missouri was one of the states that was ahead of the game when it came to casino gambling, but other states have caught up in recent years. Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Delaware, and Florida are just some of the dozens of states that have expanded their gambling laws.
In Kansas City, Harrah's, Ameristar, Argosy, and Isle of Capri are some of the casinos that have been affected this winter by the rough weather. These casinos always experience a lull in revenue during the winter months because of the weather, but this year has been worse than the past couple of winters.
