Kansas Following Missouri Lead in Helping Problem Gamblers
Many people in the United States are concerned with the perceived problem of gambling addiction in America. The truth is that many states are doing above average jobs at helping problem gamblers.
Kansas is one of the states that is prepared to go above and beyond to help problem gamblers. They will be following the lead of Missouri when they unveil their Kansas Responsible Gambling Alliance on Thursday.
Several different organizations are involved in the Alliance. The Kansas Department of Corrections, Kansas Coalition on Problem Gambling, the Kansas Lottery, Kansas Gaming and Racing Commission, and Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services are all included.
National Problem Gambling Awareness Week is being observed this week. It will bring light to a situation that even though it is not an overwhelming problem, gambling addiction does exist.
Two percent of taxes that are collected by the state from casinos is set to go to addiction treatment for problem gamblers. Alcohol and drug use are also covered with the money.
The state wants gamblers to know that should their form of entertainment become a problem, help is available.
