Kansas Getting Ready For Casino Decisions While Harrah's is Sued
The state of Kansas has been moving at a turtles pace when it comes to deciding which developers will be awarded contracts to run their state casinos. That decision is going to be made in the near future, but one of the companies is now being sued.
Harrah's Entertainment Inc. has put a bid in to try and gain management of a state owned casino in Sumner County, Kansas. Today, word came down that they are being sued by the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation for violating a non compete clause.
The Indian tribe casino was managed by Harrah's for ten years, and the tribe believes that the casino in Sumner County would be inside of the non complete area.
The Kansas Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board is expected to make their decision on Friday as to which company gets the rights to manage the casino in Sumner County. In addition to Harrah's, Marvel Gaming and Penn National are the other two who are competing for the contract.
"As far as I'm concerned it's not one of the questions before us. They didn't file the lawsuit with us. I intend only to address the question of which is the best contract, and any other legal issues outside of that will be addressed in an appropriate forum," said Board Chairman Matt All.
Sumner County is not the only one in Kansas waiting for a decision. Ford, Wyandotte, and Cherokee Counties are also waiting to find out who will be running their casinos.
