Kansas Lottery To Make Casino Decision On Friday

USA Players Accepted at Rome Casino!

The Kansas Lottery Commission must feel that one of these times, they are going to find the right suitor to build a casino South of Wichita. On Friday, the Commission will again decide whether or not to re-open the bidding process to operate the casino.

For the past several years, the casino industry in Kansas has been in chaos. Although voters approved four state-owned casinos over three years ago, only one facility is currently up and running, in Dodge City.

The economy has been blamed for many of the mistakes that have been made. The most recent event to disturb the peace on the casino issue occurred earlier in April when the Chisholm Creek group pulled out of their deal to build a casino near Mulvane.

The Chisholm Creek group asked the state for more time, with the intent on waiting to see if Kansas lawmakers changed the investment requirements for other casino projects. When the state denied the request for a delay, the group pulled out of the deal.

Now, the Lottery Commission is considering taking applications once again. many of the developers who gave proposals the last time around would likely try again, although it is expected that the proposals would be scaled back.

If approved on Friday, the Commission would then give applicants ninety days to submit bids. The Commission would then take those bids and decide which would be most beneficial to the state and the local area where the casino would be built.

Developers have been slow to pursue an agreement in which the state, and not the developer, owns the casinos. That has caused some of the biggest names in casino development to stay out of the bidding process.
