Kansas Reopens Bids For Casino In Southeast Area of State
Last week, Penn National pulled out of their agreement with the state of Kansas to run a casino in Cherokee County. The casino would have been one of the four that the state put out for bids.
Although Penn National won the bid by default, they were not happy with some of the events leading up to them opening the casino. That led to them pulling out of an agreement they had with Kansas to run the casino.
Now, the state will once again begin the process of trying to find a company to run the casino in Cherokee County. Considering the process has taken this long already, it does not bode well for the state that Penn National pulled out last week.
The Kansas Lottery will now begin taking applications for someone to run the casino in either Cherokee or Crawford County. Penn National pulling out of the deal could lead to the Cherokee casino being the last one to have a company to run it.
Two other counties, Wyandotte and Sumner, have both had their casino operators chosen. The other of the four counties that will get a new casino, Ford County, is expected to have the company that receives their contract chosen on Friday.
