Kansas Speedway Tries To Gain Casino License Again
The state of Kansas has a grueling process in place to give development companies the right to run a state owned casino. The process so far has netted one contract in the four zones where they are available. This is over a two year span.
Now, the process is once again beginning in the three zones that have no casino plan. The Kansas Speedway put a bid in the first time around, and won, but backed out when the credit market froze up.
That has led them to revamp their bid and try again. This time, many of the promises they made verbally last time around will be put in writing. Promises such as bringing a second NASCAR race to the track and adding n infield road course for sports car racing.
They were ridiculed in their first proposal for saying they will do things if they won the contract, but not putting those things in writing. They are making sure they are fully prepared when the time comes to show their latest proposal.
What is not known is whether the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino name will be attached to that proposal. As recently as December it had been rumored that Hard Rock would not be involved, but negotiations are ongoing.
Morgans Hotel Group holds the right to the Hard Rock name and they have confirmed the negotiations. The process for the casino applications begins again on April 1st, so a decision must be in place regarding Hard Rock before that date.
