Keep Casino Boat away from Monroe
Will casino gambling attract people outside of our area? Will people drive 100 miles past Greenville, Vicksburg, Natchez, Alexandria or Shreveport to come to Monroe? I think not. The casinos in Shreveport and Lake Charles are successful because there is no gambling in Texas. Gambling in Monroe will hurt the poor who are looking for a quick fix. Ask the grocery stores in Greenville, Vicksburg or Natchez about the loss in sales once those gambling places opened up. Or call the utility companies and find out how the percentage of customers who are delinquent in paying their bills increased after the boats opened up.
Those who enjoy gambling can afford to drive 100 miles in any direction to find a casino. Keep gambling out of Monroe. Let's develop some good family-oriented attraction that these other cities don't have. Now that may cause people to drive past those cities on to Monroe. Skip Caissie
