Kentucky Racetracks Pulling All The Stops For Casino Gambling
Kentucky racetracks have learned well from their governor that when you want something, you simply try to take it. Governor Steve Beshear did that when he attempted to seize online gambling domain names, and now the tracks are following his lead.
Instead of sitting back and allowing the powers-that-be just decide their fate regarding casino style-gambling, the tracks have made a strong campaign push. They have sent out over 250,000 brochures and have also taken out radio ads.
Slot machines are the main cause of debate in Kentucky these days, and it is an issue that has many people involved torn. On one side, they do not want the casino gambling, but at risk if they do not accept it is their beloved racing industry.
"This is a tough one for the people of Kentucky," said observer Jamie Gresker, "they cannot afford to risk their racetracks closing down, but they are strongly opposed to any type of casino gambling."
Kentucky tracks are being hurt by other states that now are allowing their tracks to carry slot machines. Gamblers are traveling to play the slots, rather then going to the tracks in Kentucky.
Opponents of the casino gambling movement believe there is no chance that slots will be approved. They have faith that no matter how visible the issue becomes, voters will still not approve expanded gambling.
