Lake Charles Remains Neutral on Casino Deal
The city is not endorsing either of competing proposals to take over the shuttered Harrah's Entertainment Inc. casinos in Lake Charles, its mayor says. The two riverboats comprising the gambling complex were devastated by Hurricane Rita. Since then, Harrah's has said it will not reopen and has an agreement with Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. to sell the two casino licenses.
A competing group, Lake-Charles-based Alliance for Local Recovery and Development, wants the licenses to keep the riverboats in the city. It's really not our purpose to get involved in that. This is not what the city needs to do, Roach said. This is a business deal between Harrah?s and Pinnacle, and it's a decision that the Gaming Control Board needs to make in the interest of the state.
