Laredo, Texas is Seeing a Rise in Illegal 8-Liner Slots
There is an interesting law in Texas that makes gambling machines legal as long as the award given for a winning is no larger than a $5 prize.
But some slot machines in Laredo, Texas, which feature 8 lines and are known as 8-liners, are giving out more than the $5 prizes that are legal, sometimes these players that win get up to $40 in cash prizes, which is not legal.
Although police have reportedly admitted that most places give out cash as prizes, which is illegal, investigations into the matter have been slowed by a lack of interest or complaints from city residents.
Opponents, who are few and far between, say the illegal machines offered at certain places are making it more difficult for legal gaming operators to run successfully. Those same operators are the only interested complainers about the issue and investigators don't seem too much to care.
