Legal Casino Gambling Age Becoming An Issue Around US
There are several different theories as to when a child is mature enough to gamble responsibly. Lawmakers are being asked their opinions on the subject all across the US with the casino expansion that is taking place.
Las Vegas, the gambling center of the US, has long had policies in place that the gambling age in their casinos would be twenty-one. This year, however, some lawmakers were pushing to change that age to eighteen. They have been met with resistance.
In other states that are just learning to walk when it comes to casino gambling, the debate has also been ongoing. Some lawmakers believe that at eighteen, young adults are not responsible enough to gamble.
They point to students who would use their education money to gamble in casinos. They also believe that children this age do not have the means to gamble and replenish their money with their income, so they are a risk for criminal activity to obtain the gambling money.
On the other side, there are politicians who believe that if a youth can serve in the military, then they should be allowed to gamble. Eighteen year olds are thrown much responsibility, and gambling would be a luxury that they deserve to have if they take on their other responsibilities.
Whatever side of the debate these politicians are on, one thing is certain. The debate is not going away. Casino expansion around the US is at an all time high, and many states are setting gambling laws for the first time. The age restriction is one of the first debates that must happen to expand gambling, and the debate is raging on.
