Legislators Look at Gambling Industry

Voted Top Online Casino Several Years in a Row!

Washington - Two legislative leaders want to find out, and explore whether the Legislature should wield tighter control of the state's rapidly growing $1. 6 billion gambling industry. The discussion begins Wednesday in Olympia with a background session for members of the Senate Labor, Commerce, Research and Development panel and the House Commerce and Labor panel.

A series of follow-up meetings is planned over the next several months. Legislators hope to propose a package of bills dealing with gambling for the 2007 Legislature. "We've had a number of unresolved issues in recent years," said Rep. Steve Conway, D-Tacoma, chairman of House Labor and Commerce. Those include setting the minimum gambling age, helping problem gamblers, deciding how much power local governments should have to control gambling through zoning, and enforcing the ban on Internet gambling, which is illegal in Washington.
