Look Out Macau, Taiwan Coming Strong Into Casino Gambling Market
Macau was the first to expose the amount of money that could be generated on the far side of the world from Las Vegas. Now it appears that their steps have created a following.
Taiwan is planning on making a big splash into the casino gambling market. They have seen the success of Macau and believe that they can build bigger and better resorts to compete on a worldwide level.
Las Vegas is no longer the sure bet that it once was for casino operators. A lack of business at home combined with intuition about the future has led Las Vegas casino companies to explore options in other countries.
The Taiwan projects are expected to cost trillions of dollars, and they are turning to the Las Vegas groups for almost $1 billion of that money. It is not yet known which groups will bite on the Taiwan idea.
Authorities are beginning the process of finding developers. That could take until February of next year. After that, construction will begin on the resorts with estimated openings sometime in 2011.
Macau has been struggling with their casino industry since China has changed their laws regarding the amount of visits that people can make to Macau from the mainland. Those laws are expected to be loosened in the new year.
