The state of Louisiana has battled over the past several years to get their casino industry back on track after Hurricane Katrina devastated the state. Then, when the economy soured in the US, Louisiana casinos were once again set back.

In April, the industry received some good news. Revenue figures for Louisiana casinos won $200.5 million. That was a slight one percent decrease from the same period in 2009, but with many states seeing double digit decreases, the revenue drop in Louisiana was negligible.

"Casinos in the state of Louisiana are on the right track on the road to recovery from the economic recession," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "With all of the tourism in Louisiana, it should be one of the states that rebounds quicker than others."

The two major casino destinations in the US. Atlantic City and Las Vegas have both had a miserable couple of years and are taking longer to recover. AC casinos had experienced double digit decreases in revenue for many months in a row before last month. In April, the revenue drop was less than one percent for New Jersey casinos.

Nevada, meanwhile, has been dealing with a drop in revenue not only caused by the recession, but also the competition from Macau. The Asian gaming destination has become the center of the casino universe in recent years. Asian gamblers that once flew across the world to Sin City to gamble, are now staying closer to home in Macau.

The April figures in Louisiana were down almost three percent from March. The earlier month, however, had one extra day which contributed to the lower revenue. The riverboat casinos were the big winners in April, taking in $135.7 million of the $200.5 million in casino revenue for the month.
