Several states released their casino revenue figures on Tuesday and it was not good news for either Louisiana or Mississippi. Louisiana had a revenue decrease for the forth straight month.

In April, the economy appears to have finally taken a toll on Louisiana casinos. They had been having better months than Las Vegas and Atlantic City, but that has come to an end over the past four months.

Revenue was down 7.1% in April compared to March. The $202.6 million was over $15 million less than what was won in March. In February, the state had Mardi Gras to help out with the revenue figures, but they still declined.

"It is actually amazing that it has taken this long for Louisiana casinos to start having the same revenue decreases as other states," said observer John Greske, "The economy has been so rough on the casino industry that Louisiana has dodged a bullet up until now."

Casinos in Mississippi also had themselves a poor first four months of 2009. revenue decreased by 7.9%, to $872.8 million. Last year in the same period, revenue was $947.8 million. Louisiana casino revenue only dropped 1.5% over that same time period.
