This has not been a good week for the casino industry. What used to be a joyous time, when casino revenue figures were announced, has turned into a time that casino operators and state lawmakers dread.

Louisiana has now reported their revenue figures from the month of March and it is similar bad news that the rest of the country has already reported for the month. revenue was down five percent from the same period in 2008.

It was the third straight month that revenue has decreased at Louisiana casinos, and the future does not appear to be brightening. The casino industry has been hit among the hardest of all industries because of the current economic conditions in the US.

"If these revenue figures continue to drop, there is going to be a major increase in casinos that are being shut down," said observer Neal Kemrilis, "the casino companies are already restructuring debt, and the next step is to start closing some of the casinos."

Casinos in Louisiana had revenue of $218.1 million in March. That figures is down from the $229.6 million that was made in March of 2008. Mardi Gras helped the casinos have $222 million in February.

Several other states including Mississippi have already released revenue figures for March that indicate declining customers. Mississippi revenue dropped over ten percent and New jersey casino revenue was down nineteen percent for March.
