Macao Casino Strip Attracts More Hi-Rollers Than Las Vegas
The Sands Casino Company has recently opened the largest casino on earth, however, it was not in Vegas or Atlantic City, it was in Macao, China, the location of the world's hottest new casino strip.
Earlier today reports of the Macao revenues for the first half of 2006 were released and the former Portuguese territory showed $3.1 billion in revenue. Las Vegas released their first half revenues of $3.3 billion.
"It's very likely that Macao will overtake the strip as the world's biggest casino market," said Gabriel Chan, a Credit Suisse analyst in Hong Kong.
Chan believes that to be true because three major casinos are soon to open in Macao and once they do, he says, the revenue they produce will skyrocket them above Vegas revenues.
The more interesting analysis of the revenues from Macao casinos is that they only recieve half the visitors that Vegas recieves. Grant Chum, an Chinese analyst, said the average daily take at Macao's tables was $12,000, compared to $2,600 in its U.S. rival.
This means that Macao is the place where hi-rollers go to play.
