Macau Casino Gambling Revenue Soars To A Record High
The casino gambling revenue figures have been released for Macau in the third quarter and they showed exactly how important Chinese mainland customers mean to their business. Revenue was up almost twenty-five percent compared to the same period the year before.
In the early summer, it was revealed that the Chinese government had loosened visa restrictions for mainland residents. That allowed the residents to visit Macau more often, which, in turn, led to a huge increase in revenue for the third quarter.
The actual revenue gain was 22.3%. The previous year in the third quarter, revenue was 25.99 billion patacas, compared to the 31.78 billion patacas this year. The revenue growth is expected to continue to rise in the fourth quarter, but it is not known where it will go after that.
The owners of casinos in Macau had a meeting earlier this week with Macau government officials. The developers were told that there would not be unlimited growth for the casino industry in Macau. That may, however, turn out to be good news for existing casinos.
Another issue that could slow the revenue growth in the future is the age limit on gambling in Macau. Currently, a gambler need only be eighteen years old. The government is considering changing that limit to twenty-one.
