Macau Casino Gambling Revenue Up Seventeen Percent In August

It is a funny time for areas of the world that are known for their casino gambling industries. Las Vegas and Atlantic City are both struggling in the US, and Macau has had their gaming industry slip as well in the past year.

This week, however, Macau received good news. Their gambling revenue for the month of August was up seventeen percent from the same time the previous year. That news is much welcomed by Macau officials, who have seen revenue slip since China placed visa restrictions on their residents.

The revenue figures also showed promise for the rest of 2009. In August, revenue was up 17.8% from June. It shows an increase that analysts believe will continue through September. The consensus predictions have Macau gambling revenue jumping possibly over forty percent in the next month.

Casino companies based in the US certainly have helped make Macau a better gaming destination. Las Vegas Sands has a project in Macau that just a few months ago looked as if it would be placed on the shelf forever. Now, the company has stated their commitment to completing the casino project.

There also is a chance that Chinese officials will once again loosen the visa restrictions they have placed on their residents of the mainland. Last year, they placed the restrictions because they feared too many China residents were taking their entertainment money to Macau, instead of spending it at home.

While Macau looks to be recovering from the economic meltdown, Las Vegas and Atlantic City continue to struggle. AC is facing increased competition from surrounding states such as New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.
