Macau Casino Revenue Drops For Fifth Straight Month In April

Showing that it is not just Las Vegas and Atlantic City that are struggling with the global economy, Macau casinos produced another bad month of revenue in April. It was the fifth straight month in which revenue declined.

Las Vegas is in the midst of some of the worst economic times in its illustrious casino industry history. Some hotels are operating at less than sixty percent capacity, and the casinos attached to those hotels are feeling the effects.

In Atlantic City, the news is even more concerning. Projects that were supposed to revive the city's casino industry have been tabled. The eleven existing casinos are not renovating, and it is causing a severe drop off in revenue.

Macau casinos took in around $1 billion in April. That may seem like a large number, but it represents a nine percent drop from April of 2008. From one month to the next the news was not good either. Casino revenue dropped thirteen percent from March to April.

The Chinese government has had a big hand in hurting the casino revenue in Macau. The government has tightened restrictions on how many times a citizen can visit Macau from the mainland.

It has been expected that the government is going to once again loosen those restrictions, but it has not yet happen. That, coupled with the credit crunch going on worldwide, has caused revenue to decrease rapidly in what has become the gambling capital of the world.
