Macau Gambling Revenue Continues To Climb In July
Growth at Macau casinos has become so obvious that earlier this year, the government and existing casinos came up with a plan on how to slow future growth. In July, the casinos again showed why Macau has become the casino gaming capital of the world.
Gambling revenue in July was up seventy percent from the same period in 2009. Revenue totaled $2 billion in July, up twenty percent from the record number that was seen in June. With each passing month, revenue jumps higher and higher.
"At some point, revenue is going to have to max out and stabilize in Macau, but right now, that is not the case," said Gaming Analyst Brad Dawkins. "The amount of revenue these casinos are making is almost unbelievable at this tough economic time in the world."
The US casino industry has been ravaged by the economic recession in the past couple of years. Las Vegas was the gambling capital of the world for decades before Macau casinos passed Sin City casinos several years ago. Many of the casinos in the two gaming destinations are owned by the same casino company's, based in Las Vegas.
Analysts are expecting that revenue growth will be slower in the second half of the year in Macau than in the first half. Predictions for growth range from thirty to forty percent for the second half of 2010. In the first half, revenue jumped sixty-four percent.
The majority of the revenue in Macau comes from the Chinese mainland. Travelers take trips to Macau and with visa restrictions lightened, more gamblers have come from the mainland this year to gamble in Macau casinos. The Macau casinos have experienced strong revenue figures for the better part of the past year.
