Mardi Gras Helps Louisiana Casinos Increase Revenue in February
The state of Louisiana has shown the ability to overcome challenges. Hurricane Katrina ripped through the area several years ago, and the state has been slow to recover.
Signs that things are changing have been showed as of late. Casinos have seen an increase in revenue in their February numbers. Several factors went into the increase.
Mardi Gras came early this year. That had the state see a major increase in the amount of tourists that visited the state in February. The tourists helped contribute to the $234 million that state casinos won in February.
Two new casinos also opened in the state. The New Orleans Fairgrounds added a slot machines casino. A new riverboat casino, the Amelia Belle, also was opened.
In February of 2006, the revenue figure was $212 million. The twenty two million increase was due in large part to Mardi Gras coming early. The figure does represent hope for a state that is still recovering from the devastation left behind from Hurricane Katrina.
