Anytime tens of thousands of party-goers hit the streets in an area that has casinos, the revenue at those gaming facilities is going to increase. That has been the case in New Orleans, with Mardi Gras history showing that casinos in New Orleans come out the big winner.

Alcohol will be the number one vice over the next couple of weeks in New Orleans as the annual Mardi Gras celebration kicks off today with Fat Tuesday festivities. After alcohol and the debauchery, gambling is next on the list of priorities for tourists starting this week.

"I come to Mardi Gras every year and stay a week," said Brian Helms. "The first couple of days I party, but towards the end of the week I'm usually partied out and I just hit up the casinos to pass the time."

Other tourists do things the opposite way, and hit the casinos first with the hope of paying for their expensive trip to New Orleans. No matter which blueprint is followed, the casinos are the big winners in the country during Mardi Gras.

"Casinos in other states are looking for ways to bring this many people into their cities," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz. "The fact that Mardi Gras attracts this many people every year, many of which are gamblers, makes it a great situation for casinos in New Orleans and the surrounding areas."

Mardi Gras is kicked off with Fat Tuesday, and comes with some of the craziest partying traditions seen in the entire US. Costumes and parades are featured during the event, and Bourbon Street will be packed from morning until night with people of all ages who have come to experience what New Orleans has to offer.
