It used to be that the battle for casino gambling dollars in the US was based on East versus West Coast. It was Las Vegas against Atlantic City, and that was it.

Now, there is competition on almost every state border. States are having to examine the possibility of casino gambling simply to stay competitive with their neighbors. It is causing expansion of gambling at record rates.

In Maryland, they are upset over law changes in Delaware that were made this week. It is not the sports betting that will hurt Maryland, but the casino expansion that will also take place in the near future.

Delaware will soon be offering table games at their three horse tracks. The games will include blackjack, roulette, and craps. Those are games that Maryland is not currently offering.

Maryland thought they were catching up last year when they approved slot gambling. Two of their locations for slot rooms are within twenty miles of Delaware. The new games at Delaware tracks will almost assuredly hurt the Maryland casino industry.

Lawmakers in the state of Maryland have begun to grapple over the gambling issue. Some say that the state is now falling too far behind, while other maintain that Delaware is expanding their gambling options to keep up with Maryland.
