Casino gambling can bring hope to an area. The hope that comes with increased revenue for county's in which casinos are built has spread to Shelby County. They will hold a public forum on Wednesday June 18th to discuss money that will be generated from the Indiana Live! Casino.

Officials from both the county and various city's have an idea where the money will go, but they want to get a pulse on what the public feels is important. It is, after all, the taxpayers money.

"I think it's important to find out what people think and how they want that money spent. People always have interesting ideas, and this is a good opportunity for their elected officials to hear from them," said Shelbyville Mayor, Scott Furgeson.

The city of Shelbyville is expected to receive $3 million from the casino. The county will distribute the other $4 million based on population. Those figures are estimates based on what officials believe will be casino gambling profits.

While it is the people's opinion that the officials are looking for in the meeting, it is expected that various groups seeking the money will attend the meeting. "I've heard from Senior Services about using casino money to help fund its ShelbyGo bus transportation system. I'm sure other agencies will have representatives at Wednesday's meeting," said Furgeson.

The joint meeting of the Shelby County Council, Shelby County Commissioners, and Shelbyville Common Council will be held at the Shelbyville Middle School at 6:00 on Wednesday.
