Mega Millions Lottery Jackpot Players Will Try For $270 Million Tonight

The Mega Millions lottery jackpot has not been hit very often this year. Matter of fact, it has only been hit once since the calendar has turned to 2008.

The first day of the year, that was the last time that anyone was lucky enough to match all five numbers plus the money ball. That person came from Texas. If anyone gets lucky tonight, the prize will be substantially higher.

The estimated jackpot for tonight's drawing is $270 million. It is not the highest the Mega Millions jackpot has ever been, but it is approaching that number rather quickly.

In March, 2007, $390 million was the first place prize when it was won. That was the largest payout in history. The current $270 million ranks sixth all time. If someone does not hit it tonight, the jackpot will start further creeping towards an all time high.

This year, January 1st was the last grand prize winner. Since that drawing, there have been sixteen drawings that have produced no winners.

The odds of winning the top prize are astronomical. A person has a much better chance of getting hit by lightning in the coming year than winning the Mega Millions. Those odds have not deterred players from buying tickets and taking a shot at being a millionaire.
