Metropolis Funding Drops Thanks To Casino Revenue Decline

Stories like this one are becoming more commonplace around the United States. Places that have become dependant on casino revenue money to help balance their budgets are starting to have to look elsewhere.

In Metropolis, they have become reliant on revenue from Harrah's Metropolis Casino. This year, however, they will have to make adjustments after the casino reported lower than usual revenue numbers.

In numbers released from the Illinois Gaming Board, revenue at the casino was down from $14.7 million last June, to $10.3 million this June. That means the city will be receiving less than they had planned off of last year's numbers.

People just do not have the money like they used to have to frivolously spend in the casino. That fact is proven in the admission numbers to the casino. Harrah's attendance numbers dropped from 129,000 last year in June to 87,000.

This is not a new trend in Metropolis. The mayor, Billy McDaniels, claims that the city's revenue from the casino is significantly down. It is currently $140,000 to $180,000 less than it used to be per month.
