MGM Grand Casino In Detroit Laying Off Workers Again
It is understandable in today's economy that people are going to lose their jobs. What is shocking is that employees in the casino industry are feeling the effects of the economy as strongly as they are.
The MGM Grand Detroit is laying off employees for the second time this year. They are slashing jobs even though they are the most successful casino in Detroit.
The economy is not fully to blame for the latest layoffs. MGM expanded into their $800 million complex last year, and they may have over-hired at the time to ensure the best service for their customers.
Now, a year later, the company has a better grasp on the employees that are needed to run the casino efficiently. Many of the overstaffed positions are being trimmed down.
"Being a year into operations, we are at a better point than ever to evaluate what our customer demand is and normalize operations according to that demand,' said Yvette Monet, a spokeswoman for MGM Grand.
Of the 3,6000 employees that MGM Grand has, less than 100 are expected to lose their jobs. The jobs that will be lost will come from the bars and restaurants at the facility.
