MGM Mirage Believes Pansy Ho Is A Fine Gambling Partner

MGM Mirage received bad news last month when a US regulatory report called the company's Macau casino partner, "unsuitable". The company said on Wednesday that they will be disputing the theory of that report.

"We disagree with their recommendation," said Lloyd Nathan, MGM's president for Global Gaming Development, "Pansy Ho has been and is a great partner in Macau."

MGM and Ho are partners in the MGM Grand Macau. The company is preparing to show the casino commission that there should be no connection made between Pansy Ho and her father, Stanley Ho. The elder Ho had a gambling monopoly in Macau before any of the US gaming companies moved into the area.

In Nevada, facing a similar dilemma, Ho was cleared by regulators. The Nevada regulators were comfortable with her assertion that she operates independently of her father. The Nevada hearings took place back in 2007.

The Borgata Hotel casino & Spa is what is on the line in Atlantic City. If New Jersey gaming regulators follow the recommendation of the regulatory report and not approve Ho, the company would be put in a tough situation.

The Atlantic City casino that they own is the most lucrative of all eleven city casinos. They would have to choose between keeping their investment in the Borgata, or stopping their involvement in the Macau casino.
