Millennium Gaming Makes its Pitch for Gambling License
The Meadows officially presented its plan Wednesday to state gaming officials to include slot machines at the 43-year-old North Strabane Township harness track, with state legislators and representatives of several community groups voicing support for the project. During a two-hour presentation before members of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board at the Omni William Penn Hotel, about a dozen people provided testimony in support of the track's owners initially adding 1,500 slot machines in a 90,000-square-foot temporary casino that could open as early as September, pending issue of a slots license.
William Paulos, co-owner of Millennium Gaming of Las Vegas, said his company expects to close within 30 to 45 days its purchase of The Meadows from Magna Entertainment Corp. for $225 million. As part of the transaction, Paulos said, MEC Pennsylvania Racing will remain at the track for up to five years to operate the racing portion of the business. Paulos introduced David Climans, a principal with the architectural firm of Climans Green Lang, which casino gambling slots is designing the temporary casino that Millennium hopes to open in September. The target date is based on the assumption that The Meadows will receive approval for its application for a slots license from the gaming commission.
