Milwaukee Airport Closed, Gamblers Must Wait To Arrive At Casino

It has been a rough start to the weekend for many vacationers with the weather causing concern. It rained around much of the US early Friday morning, and in Milwaukee, it rained so hard that the Mitchell International Airport had to close.

Gamblers that had a vacation planned to Wisconsin had their trips delayed for many hours. The airport closed after flooding was all over two runways. By 1PM, the flooding had been controlled to the point where travelers could again begin boarding planes.

Incoming flights were also delayed, leaving gamblers headed towards the Potawatomi Bingo Casino waiting to arrive. The casinos does have a nice flow of travelers that show up at the casino on a regular basis, so the early morning airport closure may slightly hurt revenue figures for July.

"I have been sitting in airports since early this morning, but I am glad to be back home," said Mark Bradson. "Now, I can get home, shower, and bring my in-laws to the casino to enjoy their vacation."

Several stories similar to Bradson's were played out throughout the day on Friday as travelers who were set to arrive early in the morning started coming in throughout the day. Many of the people involved were happy that the airport took precautions to keep everyone safe.

The end of the bad weather may not come until the end of the weekend. The National Weather Service has indicated that another five inches of rain could be received in some areas of Wisconsin on Friday evening. By Saturday night, the storms are expected to move out of the area.
