Minor Casino Damage As Hurricane Gustav Exits Louisiana
Hurricane Katrina a few years back caused the kind of damage to casinos in the Gulf Coast that they are still trying to recover from. So when word got out about Hurricane Gustav, another major hurricane that was moving into the area, the region prepared quickly.
The storm has now moved through Louisiana and the early reports are that it has caused only minor damages to some of the casinos in the area. That is good news for the gambling industry in the state.
They are coming off a strong month financially and had hoped on building on that success. Not many casinos in the country are prospering, so any major damage to the casinos in Louisiana could have hurt an already struggling industry.
Mandatory evacuation orders had caused many casinos to close over the weekend. Upon returning after the storm, two Pinnacle casinos reported minor damage to the exterior of their casinos. Another Pinnacle casino, Boomtown Bossier City, was not damaged in the storm.
New Orleans officials are still warning residents not to return yet. They are urging people to stay away for just a little while longer. Despite their efforts, people have already began to return to their homes.
