Miss North Carolina Wins Miss USA Pageant At Las Vegas Casino
Las Vegas can still count on their conventions and major events when it comes to bringing people to the city's casino. On Sunday, the Miss USA pageant was held at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, meaning thousands of people came to Las Vegas to watch their family and friends compete.
The pageant came down to women from three states, California, Arizona, and North Carolina. Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton ended up winning the crown.
"It feels really natural," said Dalton in speaking about her win, "I've worked so hard to be here and this has been my lifelong dream and it's finally here. And whoever knew you could win in a turquoise gown."
The pageant is somewhat similar to the Miss America pageant with one glaring difference. In the Miss USA pageant, the women do not perform a talent. They do, however, still have an evening gown and a swimsuit competition.
The benefits are great for Dalton. She will receive a public relations team, a scholarship to the New York Film Academy, an apartment in New York to use for a year, and a salary for that year.
Las Vegas has been hit hard by the economy and anytime they can attract visitors like the ones that accompany the Miss USA pageant, it is a victory. Revenue has been down at most of the Las Vegas casinos, and casino owners are hoping more nights like this one are set to come.
