Mississippi Casinos Down Another Nineteen Percent In September

The state of Mississippi is the latest state that is seeing their casino revenue dwindle. The state dropped nineteen percent from the previous month in September, a trend that has been taking place all across the country.

In addition to the meltdown in the stock market, Mississippi has also had to deal with their casinos having to be shut while a hurricane came through. Those two factors combined to explain the nineteen percent decrease.

"We've been riding down a four-lane road with the casino industry in Mississippi, but I think we'll be riding down a two-lane road until the economy gets better," said Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission, Larry Gregory.

Indeed, the economy is a cause for concern for casinos all across the United States. When individual states see the problems that the gambling center, Las Vegas, is experiencing, then it is easy to understand how that would have a trickle down effect to other ares of the country.

High gas prices is another of the reasons that casinos are seeing a decrease in revenue. People are not willing to spend the fuel necessary to travel to casinos. They are choosing less expensive forms of entertainment these days.
