Mississippi Casinos Join The Trend Of Spiraling Revenues In US
There are a couple of states where casino gambling revenue has actually increase over the past several months. Mississippi, however, is not one of them after revenue figures for March indicated another sharp drop.
The Mississippi State Tax Commission had mixed results when they announced the revenue figures from March. The $232.9 million made in March was higher than the February figures, but much lower than the same month in 2008.
"There should be no reason why any of these revenue figures surprise analysts these days," said observer Jack Limus, "The economy is simply not allowing for people to spend money in casinos, and that probably will not change in the near future."
In February of this year, Mississippi casinos made $216.50 million. Last year in March, $260.6 million was made. The state casino tax total for Mississippi was $31.8 million in March, and casinos along the Mississippi were up almost $15 million from February.
Around the US as revenue figures have been released, there has been a growing concern inside the casino industry. Major companies based in the US are in the process of restructuring debt to ensure that they withstand the economic pressures.
