Mississippi State Casinos Revenue Drops Again In August
While Wall Street continues to drop by the day, casinos around the country also are concerned about recent trends in which their revenue numbers are slipping from month to month. Mississippi is the latest to report low revenue numbers from August.
The state of Mississippi is one of the state's where the weather could severely effect the outcome of their revenue numbers for the summer months. With an active hurricane season, the casino have seen a dip in numbers this year.
In August, Mississippi had their revenue dropped to $232.7 million. That figure is down from the figures in the same month last year. Hurricane Gustav played a big part in that decline when it came through the state during the Labor Day weekend.
Casinos have long been thought of as being immune to the problems of the economy. That has not been the case this time around. The economy is slashing all industries this year, and the casino industry is included.
People simply do not have extra money to go and gamble. The addition of casinos throughout the country has also spread the gambling dollar of Americans too thin.
Fuel prices has also played a major part in the revenue decline. Airline flights have become too expensive and people are no longer willing to spend their money traveling to gamble.
