A few years ago, gaming company's started to build luxurious nightclubs at their casino resorts in the hopes of bringing celebrities to the area. One of the nightclubs that succeeded in doing so was Home Nightclub in St. Louis. Now, the nightclub has been closed down.

Home was part of the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles and the club took $15 million to create. Ameristar Casinos, the owner of the property, closed the nightclub on Sunday, after less than three years of action. Although popular, the club still succumbed to the current economic conditions.

"It was an expensive endeavor and an expensive, high-end nightclub with the programming and staffing," said Ameristar Spokesman Mike Knopfel, as reported in the St. Louis Business Journal. "It wasn't working."

Celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Brody Jenner, those known for their partying ways, have visited Home over the past couple of years. Wilmer Valderrama and Kim Kardashian were part of the festivities to open the club back in 2007, but the economic recession hit soon after.

Ameristar has been dealing with decreasing profits, and actually lost over $20 million in the second quarter. The gaming company joins a growing list of casino company's that are struggling in the wake of the recession. Competition has also become a concern for these company's.

US lawmakers all across the country have expanded casino gambling options in the past two years. Voters in states that had never before approved casinos, such as Ohio, suddenly had a change of heart in light of the economic conditions. The unemployment rate has made many former anti-gambling voters reconsider.

The facility where Home was located will not be abandoned by Ameristar. The company plans to hold private events to try to maximize the profitability of the location. The group sales business will also be run out of the building.
