Mohegan Sun Casino Employees Take Brunt Of Revenue Loss For 2008
Ultimately in today's economy it is the employees of most businesses that will be hit the hardest. Jobs have already been lost at casinos around the country and on Sunday a bomb was dropped on employees of the Mohegan Sun casino.
The Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority has announced their plans to slash the salaries of almost 10,000 workers. there is no worker that is employed by the casino that will be spared in the pay cuts.
"Due to unprecedented market conditions, the authority has been forced to make a number of difficult, but necessary, decisions to reduce our operating costs," said President and Chief Executive of Mohegan Sun, Mitchell Etess.
It has not been a great second half of 2008 for Mohegan Sun. They have already eliminated 500 jobs and have stalled expansion. Now, the employees that survived the first round of firings will be left with less money for doing their same jobs.
The cuts come at a time when Mohegan Sun is actually still faring better than other casinos around the country. The 2008 fiscal year ended with the casino down less than five percent from the previous year.
It is not just today's pay that employees will lose out on with the planned cuts. The Gaming Authority also revealed they will no longer match payments made to 401k accounts, and all merit raises in the future will be stopped for now.
