More Casino Gambling Coming To Desert, But Not Las Vegas
Back in the day when people spoke of casino gambling in the desert there was only one place they could have been talking about, Las Vegas. The desert may soon be getting another casino, not in Las Vegas, but in Glendale, Arizona.
The state of Arizona is fixated this week on the Super Bowl where their Cardinal football team will be playing for their first ever Super Bowl win. Back home, however, there is talk of a big casino project in the works in Glendale.
The Tohono O'odham Nation has announced plans for a Vegas style casino resort within Glendale, Arizona borders. The plan is only in its preliminary stages, but the talk is exciting some of the locals.
The resort would feature 600 rooms and a huge estimated payout annually to the state. The project will cost in the range of $600 million, but, once complete, could net the state $300 million a year.
The tribe must first go through the proper channels to have the land put in trust. They do not expect to have any problems with that portion of the project. It is the next part that will help out Arizona greatly.
The tribe would like to have the casino open by 2012, and to do that, they will need to hire 3,000 employees between now and then. That is in addition to the 6,000 construction jobs that will be created from the casino project.
So far the tribe has reported that they have received support from Glendale. The city is no stranger to big projects. The Dodgers and White Sox are moving their spring training homes to the area, and University of Phoenix Stadium is not far away from the proposed casino site.
