The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has been busy at work ensuring that casino operators follow the regulations of the state. With the expansion of gambling happening in the state at a rapid pace, the Board is intent on creating examples of how rule-breaking will not be tolerated.
The latest example of this effort came on Wednesday when the Control Board fined the Mount Airy Resort Casino $100,000 for allowing underage gambling last year. Six different occasions were sited when the fine was given.
The fines were agreed to by Mount Airy, and in the time since the underage gambling took place, the casino has stepped up efforts to ensure no further violations would occur on the casino floor. The casino has purchased eight scanners to check identification before players enter the casino floor.
Casinos in Pennsylvania are preparing for full-scale expansion. Lawmakers in the state approved table games for casinos earlier this year, and many of these casinos have already applied for the right to offer the table games.
In December, Pennsylvania casinos had a higher slot revenue than Atlantic City casinos for the first time ever. With the increased popularity, the Gaming Board must attempt to keep casinos in check. In the past two years, $332,500 in fines have been handed out for nine different occasions of underage gambling.
