NAPT's High Roller Bounty Shootout Goes To Ashton Griffin
Peter Eastgate is a former World Series of Poker Main Event champion. That gives him a distinct advantage anytime he makes it to a final table. Eastgate had no such luck at the PokerStars North American Poker Tour's High Roller Bounty Shootout.
The event was held at the Venetian, and it was Ashton Griffin who came away with the top prize of $460,000 in the tournament. Griffin held off Hoyt Corkins to win the title and the first place money.
One of the object's of a bounty tournament is to eliminate other players from the event. Eastgate may have finished seventh, but he took home $5,000 in bounty money to go along with his $75,000 for his finish.
The hand that won the tournament for Griffin is not the most storied hand in poker history. He was holding 9-8, and Corkins 9-3, when the flop of 4-5-9 came out. Griffin had Corkins out-kicked and took home the title.
The heads-up match did not last long. Only two hands were played before a winner was determined. Griffin was a two to one chip leader going into heads-up play, and one all-in call was all it took for him to wrap up the title.
The NAPT has become one of the premiere poker tours in the world. In addition, however, PokerStars also runs tours in other countries outside of the US, such as the Latin America Poker Tour. Each has signature events that players enjoy entering.
